A few years ago, I was out to dinner with a lovely author friend when she began telling me about an up-and-coming author, Jocelyn Green.
I’d heard of her and seen the stunning cover for her debut novel, Wedded to War, but that was all. So on a whim, I sent her a facebook message to say hello and right off, we became fast friends. Since that day, we’ve had the privilege of being Christy nominees together and through it all, have been swapping books, advice, prayers and virtual hugs. One day I’m going to get a hug for real but for now, I’m so blessed to know Jocelyn and to be sharing the fun news of her latest novel, a fantastic e-book sale for her Heroines Behind the Lines series, AND a fun, civil-war inspired giveaway!
I’ll back up to the beginning and tell you what an amazing book Yankee in Atlanta was. I loved it as I loved all of Jocelyn’s books! Each of her titles are like a snapshot from a particular time during the Civil War and each one follows a new heroine, while also bringing back beloved characters to see once more. Yankee in Atlanta is the story of two women and the men they love amid the battles and uncertainties of the War Between the States. Stunningly researched and beautifully written, each of Jocelyn’s novels are a must-read for any fan of historical fiction.
And not only are her eBooks all on sale, Jocelyn has put together a lovely bundle of Civil War and Yankee in Atlanta inspired treasures:

The Southern home front learned to live with far less than they had been accustomed to. What have you learned to live without? How did that affect you?

The ability to come and go as I please. My schedule is my kids schedule! I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Hello Stefanie!
So glad you are here for Jocelyn’s giveaway. 🙂 Oh yes, the coming and going as we please is a big one!
SO excited for this book! And my goodness it blesses my heart seeing Jocelyn here on your blog, Joanne. You BOTH are two of my favorites. <3
Is that so!? Aw, I’m honored and I’m sure Jocelyn will be too! She’s such an amazing writer and a kind, kind spirit. I’m thankful to know her AND you!
What a fun post! I really can’t think of anything to answer the question. I’m so bad with answering those types of questions.
Thanks, Joanne!

Amy,
You are so cute! That’s a great enough answer. 😉 You are entered. Thanks for stopping by! If you haven’t read Jocelyn’s books yet, I just know you’ll love them.
This sounds like an exciting series!! 🙂
It truly is Michaela! So glad you are entered! 🙂
In 2009 I got rid of my television and I haven’t looked back. In the beginning it was a relief! I read more. I started reading my Bible (again) and I began to focus on baking. I love working in the kitchen.
With that said, please don’t misunderstand, I’m typing this on a computer. I still like to watch PBS online and a couple of other shows even if it is the day after the original showing. I don’t regret giving it up, even today. Thanks for this fun giveaway! And congratulations on being a finalist for the INSPY Award!
Oh, Shirley, I know just what you mean! We got rid of TV about 3 years ago and haven’t looked back either. Isn’t it wonderful! So much more time to read and do other things. I love that you’ve made that jump and that it’s blessed you so. I like to check out DVD’s from the library and it lets our family enjoy the movies that are good for our family, while cutting out all the gunk. 😉
And thank you for your kind words! I was so honored to be a finalist for the INSPYs. I’m so glad you are here today and for Jocelyn’s giveaway!
Hi, Jocelyn and Joanne!!
Joanne – thanks for spotlighting Jocelyn!! I love the detail and history of her books set during the Civil War, and having numerous members of my family involved in different wars – I really appreciate her dedication to the military, they often don’t receive the respect they deserve.
When I retired in 2007, due to health reasons – after working 46 years – and moved back home to another state, almost everything in my life changed: friends, church, schedule, residence, income (cut in half), and mobility/social life (due to health issues).
Since then there have been additional changes – namely, more health issues for myself (including cancer, for the 2nd time), and added responsibilities helping care for both of my parents and an aunt -all of which are ill and elderly.
I’ve learned to do without the income I once had as well as some other losses – the one that has affected me the most is my mobility issue and the ability to travel and be “on-the-go” as much as I would like. However, God has blessed me in so many other ways and I have committed myself to better nutrition and more exercise, and am standing on the Word of God in expectation of continued healing and the renewal of my strength, energy, and mobility.
Thanks for the wonderful giveaway opportunity, ladies!!
Hugs!!

Good day, Bonnie!
I’m so delighted to hear that you are familiar with Jocelyn and her books. They’re just amazing, aren’t they? So very true– it’s inspiring to see her and her families dedication to the military and also the way that plays out in her stories.
Wow, hearing all the things that you have had to do without or let go of, and even immense trials faced…to see your positive attitude through it all, clinging to the Lord in that trust, is inspiring. Thank you for setting such a wonderful example. Hugs to you!
I have always loved the saying “enough is as much as a feast”. There are so many facets to this. Food, sure, but also being grateful for what you have and realizing your blessings. I have read all of Jocelyn Green’s novels so far and look forward to this new one! Beautiful giveaway!
I love that saying! It is so, so true. Enough is always as much as a feast.
I’m so glad you are looking forward to Jocelyn’s latest. A little bird told me you grabbed it on sale 😉 Happy reading!
After leaving work and going on disability 10 years ago, my life went through many of the changes Bonnie’s did. I found the hardest change for me was the loss of my friends over time. Your friends change with time and circumstances. Thankfully my church family has not changed!
Lori,
You’ve brought up something that makes so much sense. I look back in my own life and see the evolution of friendships and circumstances. It makes us all the more grateful for those lasting ones and It sounds like you have that in your church family and I am so glad!
Hi Joanne! Thank you for sharing this lovely post and giveaway! We are about to begin homeschooling for the first time and are very excited about this new journey! While there are some things we will be giving up, I believe we will be gaining so much more!!
Britney!
Welcome to homeschooling, my friend! Was it your pictures I saw on FB the other day? The adorable ones with the kiddos and chalkboard signs? I hope your homeschooling time goes great! Ours officially began on Monday so we are in the swing of things again. We do summer school–a very light version of it–but this fall I’m going through a charter school which is new for us. New and (a little scary 😉 ) and exciting!
Sounds like a fascinating series! What I “gave up” was one life style for another over 30 years ago when we entered the ministry.
No regrets! It is a blessing to serve the Lord – not only for my hubby & me but for our 2 beautiful daughters as well. Now their families also sèrve the Lord and what a blessing that is !!!
Oh I so have wanted to read this book since the first time I saw the cover. I love historical fiction so much. When in TN near the plain folks we learned to go without a lot of things. I currently don’t have my van fixed, its been over a year, so we don’t go out as others do unless my mom comes up and takes us, I miss the freedom but I know God will provide for that one of these days.
Linda
I just divorced and have learned to live without husband 😀
Almost 12 years ago, my father was on life support for a month and then his subsequent death, I had to learn how to live with without a parent. My mother is getting up there in age but I hope she will be around for years to come. Even at my age, I am still their “little girl”. Last year I had to put down my dog who was my baby and my best friend, I had to live without “my little girl”. I know grief is a part of life but it is not easy.
Such a fascinating period in history.
